ALLEGHENY REGION CHAPTER TO HOLD

ORIENTATION FOR DISASTER VOLUNTEERS FOR ACTION TEAM

The Allegheny Region Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold an Orientation Meeting for people interested in becoming disaster responders for our local communities.   Community disaster responders are needed urgently.

The Disaster Action Team (DAT) is a group of volunteers who respond to local fires and other disasters in Crawford County .   The DAT volunteers are often the face of the Red Cross in the community when providing emergency aid to those suffering from a home fire, flood, or other disaster event.   The DAT is supported by the Emergency Services Director and the Chapter to provide coverage for response to emergency situations.

DAT members participate in a flexible on-call schedule, receive all of their training free-of-charge, and are part of a committed and compassionate group of individuals dedicated to helping our family, friends, and neighbors in time of need.  Being a community disaster responder is a great way to join a volunteer-led organization committed to assisting our friends and neighbors in time of disaster.

To find out about the orientation for interested people, contact the Allegheny Region Chapter at 814-677-2024 or 1-888-733-5603 to discuss becoming a community disaster responder.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Disaster Action Team (DAT) is a group of volunteers available after-hours and during weekends to allow the Chapter to respond to disaster or military emergencies 24 hours a day. These dedicated volunteers respond to disaster emergencies which may occur during their selected on call. They also send and verify emergency communications to servicemen and women anywhere in the world during time of family emergency. The DAT is a great way to volunteer your time and to work on a team of individuals who enjoy serving their community.

If you're looking for a new experience and love to travel, check out Disaster Services Human Resources or DSHR. These are the people who register to respond to national emergencies or major disaster areas, such as the hurricane ravaged states of the southeast this year. Your life and work experience can qualify you for this area of volunteerism, with deployments typically 2-3 weeks to all areas of the country when there is a time of need. The Red Cross pays your way and you provide your time, talents, energy and compassion. It's a great way to meet all sorts of new people and really get involved in providing relief to disaster victims.

Training is provided free of charge by the Allegheny Region Chapter for all disaster volunteers. With self-study classes and instructor taught courses, you can receive all the training you are interested in through the American Red Cross. Classes in every aspect of disaster reponse and relief are available and for however you wish to volunteer.
